Welcome to Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay is a coastal gem that is located approximately 28 miles south of San Francisco and 32 miles northwest of San Jose that showcases the best of Northern California all in one location. The famous Route 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway, runs directly along Half Moon Bay’s magnificent shoreline, providing breathtaking views of the ocean, abundant agriculture, and redwood forests.
Half Moon Bay is recognized for its historic downtown that contains award-winning restaurants, historical buildings, art galleries, and local artisan boutiques. The world-famous Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival is held in October and is the season’s signature event that draws crowds of visitors to the “World Pumpkin Capital” for an epic festival on historic Main Street. Residents and visitors can enjoy fresh local seafood at the local restaurants or pick up the seafood right off the dock at Pillar Point Harbor. Half Moon Bay’s charming seaside community retains its small-town vibe and features family-friendly farms, numerous nurseries, farms, nearby wineries, redwood forests, horseback riding on the white sandy beaches, coastal trails for hiking, golf courses, and world-famous surfing at Mavericks.
Mavericks is a gorgeous surfing location that is situated outside Pillar Point Harbor, which is just north of the village of Princeton-by-the-Sea. After a strong winter storm in the northern Pacific Ocean, waves can routinely crest at over 25 ft. and top out at over 60 ft. Mavericks is a winter destination for some of the world's best big wave surfers.
The weather in Half Moon Bay is typically mild throughout the year. Typical of Northern California, most of the rain falls from November to April. There is often fog and overcast during the night and morning hours, usually clearing to offshore during the afternoon. Despite the low latitude and strong maritime influence, nights in Half Moon Bay remain cool even in the summertime. January is the coolest month whereas September is the warmest month of the year.
Half Moon Bay is truly a spectacular and one-of-a-kind location that is genuinely treasured by its residents and visitors. Nestled between the dramatic green Santa Cruz Mountains and the spectacular Pacific Ocean, this enchanting seaside community is the perfect place for Bay Area visitors and residents seeking to experience and live the best of the surrounding areas all in one conveniently located place.
